Description

Monthly Learning with Peers

Monthly Learning with Peers represents an opportunity for pharmacists to:

  • Come together and network.
  • View a selected online CPD podcast together.
  • Complete MCQs and have discussions around the clinical topic and learn from each other in a peer supported session facilitated by your area coordinator.

This session aims to provide pharmacists with clinical information supplemented by knowledge sharing between peers. Individually we have a lot to share due to our unique work experiences. As health professionals that are continually learning there are often many questions that we don’t have answers to. Come along and find out what we can learn from each other and how this might shape our professional development and bridge our clinical gaps.

We encourage you to bring your laptop, tablet or other portable device so that you can log-in and complete the MCQs during the session.

These sessions are held on the first Tuesday evening of each month starting in March and ending in October in selected regional areas due to local demand:

  • Parkville
  • Bendigo
  • Bundoora
  • Clayton
  • Horsham (commencing from April onwards)
  • Swan Hill
  • Wodonga

March Topic: New FITTER injection delivery – insulin, diabetes and beyond

Time: 7.30pm - 9.00pm (Registration at 7pm)

Pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare professional to support the management of diabetes in the community. Management of diabetes requires a holistic approach, and includes medicines, diet, exercise, education, and monitoring. Management of injection delivery for insulin and other injectable diabetes medicines is also a key part of supporting adherence and good blood glucose control. This session provides the latest evidence for practical and comprehensive recommendations for diabetes injections and infusions, informed by the large international Forum for Injection Technique and Therapy: Expert Recommendations (FITTER) workshop in Rome 2015.

Learning objectives :

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  • Describe the FITTER recommendations with particular attention to shortest needle length as the safest and first-line choice for all patient categories.
  • Explain the correct injection technique to minimise lipohypertrophy and enhance adherence
  • Discuss the FITTER recommendations in line with the psychological barriers that injections as part of treatment can create.
